David’s September Ramble

July was a busy month as we hosted the Viking Run to raise funds for our local charities and welcomed people from far away and nearby.

Cars were the show piece of both the start and the finish venues attracting people to look and admire while talking with participants and members.

Mother nature decided that this year was our turn for dampness but several cars were seen with tops down all day. The team of organisers and volunteers did a wonderful job and we received many accolades for all aspects of the event.

One car requires special mention.

The 1934 Morris which has participated in many Viking Runs and this year was driven by the son of the person who initially owned and entered the car. This year’s run was to mark the dedication of an individual, their car, and the emotional ties which can develop between person, machine and event. We hope to continue seeing the same family with the same car at future events.

Later in the month some of us had a weekend in Yorkshire with everyone visiting places according to their individual desires but having a common interest and participation in this years Yorkshire Pudding Run. It was good to enjoy another club’s major event so soon after ours. After the glorious second half of July (wall to wall sunshine) we are now in September when we have to put away our picnic paraphernalia, (you know what I mean, tables, chairs, multi-tiered cake-stand, candelabra, best china, tablecloths etc.) as we begin planning our winter programme of winter drives to hostelries with delicious cooked lunches.

We are always on the search for new venues. Criteria are parking, food quality, convivial surroundings and value for money. Drooling already! Enjoy the Autumn sunshine before the gritters appear.

Happy motoring,

David
