March 2023 ramble from David
Louth MGOC March 2023 write-up
March can be busy for MG people. We have our monthly outing beginning with morning coffee (and something) then a fiendish route to lunch. Also there is the NEC Restoration show and Mothers’ Day. Are you going to the NEC seeking that elusive part or technique? Perhaps you are using your MG to transport “Mother” to a family event. Topless or roofed, MGs can be so versatile.
How many parents and children can squeeze into an MG? The ZTT owners have an advantage here but Judi and I transported ourselves and our 2 children on annual holidays in the 70s and 80s from England to France, Spain and Italy in an MG”B” roadster. Admittedly easier with good weather and the hood down. Were you aware that at the time a child seat fitting on the tunnel between the seat backs was marketed for the MGB? Our children sat on the rear shelf on a rear seat pad from an MGB GT. And no seat belts!!
Looking back, in January we held our AGM followed by our annual lunch. We agreed we shall support 3 local charities throughout the year. Last year we distributed over £1700 from our fund raising including £100 from our carbon footprint fund calculated from all runs organised by the club. During February we also had a club run and lunch as well as our usual monthly club meeting when one of our members regaled us with part of their motoring history. The programme during winter months is important. Many members are pleased to have a meeting, a run, or a lunch to break their routine during the dark evenings and sometimes depressing weather. Now the spring flowers are up we are looking forward to a programme of runs and picnics in the sun beginning in April
