Carbon Footprint

Making the club more carbon neutral

In March 2020 it was agreed that the club should attempt to become carbon neutral and that we should find a local environmental scheme to which we could contribute to.

After research it was agreed that we should support the work of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust. As well as planting trees and hedgerows, they also preserve, conserve, re-instate and develop the natural environment as woodland, grassland, coastal dunes and wetlands.

Calculations enabled us to agree on a social cost of 1 pence per mile travelled. This to be applied for all mileage covered on all club organised runs. Initially this contribution will be shared amongst all the members and included within the club annual membership subscription.

It was agreed that initially the club event organiser would set the mileage for each run multiplied by the number of cars participating. This would then be totalled over the year. The same criteria should apply to the annual Viking Run organised as a national event. Within the fee charged for participation the environmental cost would be included within the participation fee.

At the end of the club financial year a single contribution is to be made to the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust.
The Louth MGOC is the first section of the national MG Owners Club to create such a scheme and very few clubs within the Classic Car movement have any environmental return scheme in operation.
